CURRENT PROJECTS AND GIGS:
Planet Loop: Electro-funk-jazz
With just two musicians wielding a full-band sized arsenal of acoustic
drums, electric 7-string guitar/bass, pedals, pads and samples, PLANET
LOOP is a unique trip not to be missed. Hailing from the San
Francisco Bay Area, the duo forges their unique brand of
“electro-funk jazz,” combining wild improvisation with the
deep rhythms of worldbeat, Latin, funk, and trance music.
Frequently a third performer ranging from sax to piano to guitar to DJ
shares the stage as well as part of the rotating “PLANET LOOP
TRIO.”
Mucho Axe; Salsa/world
Mucho Axe is a unique blend of Latin American Folk, Tropicalia,
Cha-Cha-Cha, Latin Blues, Psychedelic Rock, Cuban Son, Reggae en
Español, and Latin Jazz. Equally from Oakland, CA and
Buenos Aires, Argentina, the band is co-led by Pepa Quiroga and Edgar
Macchiavello. The line up involves anything from duo to seven-
piece band, but always includes large amounts of enthusiasm and
contagious grooves to make you dance.
Terrence Brewer: Contemporary jazz
San Francisco Bay area-based Jazz Guitarist Terrence Brewer is the
winner of the "SF Weekly Music Award" for "Best Jazz Artist", winner of
the Oakland Chamber of Commerce "Artist of the Year" award, and winner
of the 'Bay area Blues Society' "Best Jazz Group." Philip Van
Vleck, writing for Billboard Magazine, states “(Brewer’s)
guitar work is fluent, and his feel for the groove is
unerring...” Bill Milkowski, writing for JazzTimes
proclaims, "(Brewer is) A melodic improviser with an exquisite tone and
an abundance of soul..."
Carrie Jahde Duo: Contemporary drums and piano duo
The Carrie Jahde Duo is an innovative duo format comprised of Carrie
Jahde (drums) and a rotating cast of some of the top Bay Area pianists.
They take
on original compositions, jazz standards, pop tunes, and even country
tunes and twist them in new ways with blues, funk, and New Orleans
feels. Their approach is highly
improvisational, playful, and communicative.
